ASUS offers free GPS dongle for Transformer Prime owners

According to a post on the Asus Transformer Prime XDA Developers forum, Asus will soon release an attachment for the Prime that will "address the GPS function and be a fully usable GPS that will lock onto many satellites and keep their lock with Wi-Fi active."

Owners of the Asus Transformer Prime who will register their devices on the Asus member site will get so called Asus GPS Extension Kit. This GPS Extension Kit is being offered free and is a dongle that Asus says, “May help improve signal reception and optimize the user experience.” The “may help” doesn’t sound like what owners of afflicted tablets want to hear.Asus-Transformer-Prime
This is hardly an ideal solution – presumably if the Extension Kit is plugged into the Transformer Prime docking port, it’ll have to be removed to charge and, well, dock. Those who were hoping to use the tablet as a Google Navigation tool (a small but significant number of people) will be fighting some rather fast battery drain. ASUS seems to have solved the issue on the Transformer tablets they showed off at MWC with plastic backs or cutouts, so hopefully these post-launch measures won’t be necessary from here on out.
