Datawind UbiSlate Tablets starting from Rs.2999

Tech company Datawind launched Ubislate (7 and 7C) tablets in India priced at Rs 2,999 and Rs 3,999, respectively, considered to be amongst the cheapest in the market. Dubbed as UbiSlate 7 and 7C, these tablets feature a 7-inch display, 256MB of RAM and are powered by Cortex A8 800 MHz processor. The tablets also come with a 3200 mAh battery and are powered by Android Gingerbread (v 2.3). In terms of connectivity, both support GPRS as well as Wi-Fi.

The included DataWind UbiSurfer browser uses compression to optimally use GPRS , and versions of the product will ship with unlimited internet access for Rs 99 a month. Both models are 7 inches and ship with Android 2.3, though the Ice Cream Sandwich flavour (upgraded version) of Android is due on the product by July, said Tuli. He also said that We have now created a product that removes the barriers and levels the playing field (with other nations).


The only difference between these two devices is that UbiSlate 7 comes with a 2GB of internal memory and has a resistive touchscreen, while the UbiSlate 7C has 4GB of internal memory and comes with capacitive touchscreen.

Just a brief background, Datawind had hit headlines in October last year when it unveiled 'Aakash', touted as the world's cheapest tablet to be supplied to the HRD Ministry at Rs. 2,276 a piece. Now their Aakash II tablets is also expected to be launched this year will carry the same configuration as Ubislate tablets, i.e, a 800 MHz Cortex A8 processors on Android 2.3 platform.
